Welcome to the new Content Strategies blog. Since this is the first post, I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce the blog and explain what we’ll be talking about, who we are and why you should read it.
The Content Strategies Blog is a project initially conceived by members of the NewsCred team. However, it grew in scope and soon had the support of over twenty brilliant thinkers from various domains related to online media. We have technologists, journalists, editors, designers, entrepreneurs and CEOs who share a common goal: to discover and share online strategies to help web publishers grow and thrive on the web. The focus is to provide actionable and concrete steps to help implement effective content strategies.
The internet has given publishers tremendous opportunities: massive distribution, easier customer acquisition, lower content creation costs and an incredible platform to innovate.
This blog will focus on that innovation. This means we’ll be discussing:
- New methods of presenting context and information
- New monetization strategies
- New approaches to building incredible user experiences (web and mobile)
While some of the blog posts will be discussing high level strategies, we will focus primarily on concrete and actionable steps to help you:
- Increase traffic and pageviews
- Improve your site’s SEO and organic user acquisition
- Provide more context for your readers
- Increase engagement and interaction with your readers
- Build compelling web experiences
- Increase ad inventory and sales conversions
- Discover new business models to drive revenue
As mentioned, the overall theme will be innovation. So if we talk about topic pages, we won’t just show you how to build a topic page. We’ll help you differentiate your topic page (hint: curation) from the hundreds that are already out there. If we talk about UX, we’ll suggest news ways to present content that your readers may never have seen before. If we talk about revenues, we’ll talk about more than just ads.
Our all-star roster of cross-industry experts will be guest blogging and providing real examples, interviews and even answering reader questions. My vision is that our contributors will be sharing their experiences and providing concrete advice to the community – a high quality knowledge exchange. Please drop me a line if you’d like to join in this experiment: shafqat at newscred dot com. Also, if there’s anything specific you’d like us to cover, just email me any time.
I really look forward to seeing how this blog evolves. Thanks so much for reading – we wouldn’t be here without you.
